    I don’t understand how you get to “$5.21 at register”. 2.99+2.99+2.89-5 equals 3.87. Then get a $5 card gift card.

    • Target does not allow overage from coupons, so as he wrote in the post, the coupon values are going to be auto-reduced by the register to account for the anticipated gift card. The value of the $5 gift card will be spread over the three items (-$1.67, -$1.67, and -$1.66) and applied first before the coupons are applied. For example, $2.99 – $1.67 = $1.32, so the $2/1 coupon will only deduct $1.32. The register will adjust the value of the coupon automatically. The combined face value of the coupons is $5, but the combined value of the coupons after the register adjusts the product prices to account for the $5 gift card will only be $3.64.
