Publix 1/11 and 1/12 (Maureen) – $11.73 Profit on $258.61 in Merchandise (104.5% Saved)

I had a killer two-day trip to Publix with the new ad.  I hustled this week because I didn’t want to miss the Advil deals, and I wanted to buy the Advil with the moneymaker deal on Flintstones vitamins.  The big Advil manufacturer’s coupons are expiring on 1/14, and some of the Publix coupons expire on Friday, January 12 (today) although the new purple Health & Beauty flyer also contains a few equally good Advil coupons.   Your ability to match my Advil PM/Thermacare score will depend on whether you activated the SavingStar offers when they were available and if you are able to shop on Friday, January 12 (when the $3/2 Publix coupon expires).  You can get the Advil 100-count and Advil Infant’s deals through Sunday, January 14 (when the manufacturer’s coupons expire).

As always, cashback offers vary by account (in kind and value).  Some of the printable coupons I used may no longer be available to print, and some of the cashback offers I used may no longer be available to activate.

I went to two Publix stores that accept Winn-Dixie coupons, so I used a $5/$40 Winn Dixie total-order coupon on each of the two transactions.  Information about getting this coupon is on every Winn Dixie receipt.  An additional $10 from these coupons is factored into the final.  For convenience, I combined the two trips.  I had to spread them out because of the daily limits on some of the coupons I used.

  1. You always have great trips! Having said that I’m not super happy with your haul of Flintstones vitamins. I only wanted 2 & seeing you have 8 just seems to add to my frustration. My store always sells out of the great deals early. People line up at opening to wipe the shelves & never leave for others. I went today for 2 bottles, but there were none. Same with the Cottonelle deal, I went 4 times to try & get 2. Customer service said the super couponers were lined up at opening to buy them all. Can’t even get rain checks either since the items aren’t on sale.

    • I am sorry for your frustration. I bought four Flintstones at each of two stores because the limit is four per day on the manufacturer coupons and there is no daily or household limit for the Publix coupons. The stores were fully stocked. I was not waiting at the store at opening, nor did I clear the shelves. I shopped on the evening of the first day of the sale (bought four) and again on the second day of the sale (bought four). No doubt it helps that I have five Publix stores within easy access of my home.

The marketing people at Publix know (or should be aware of) the best upcoming deals in their ads when all sale prices, manufacturer’s coupons, and Publix store coupons are considered, and they should anticipate needing a high volume of stock for the stores during the week of the sale. I could make the same observation of Target, CVS, and Walgreens.

I know it’s frustrating to get to a store and see an empty shelf for products on a short-term deal for which there is no rain check option (for any number of reasons), but in almost every case, my frustration is directed at the stores for not anticipating demand and stocking sufficient product, not against other shoppers who take advantage of the deal without violating store or coupon policies.

I went to Walgreens two days ago Cerave soap. I wanted four bars and considered myself lucky to find exactly four bars on the shelf. I technically cleared the shelf, and anyone coming after me who also wanted the soap would have been frustrated. However, in no way did I feel guilty about buying the last four bars, nor did I feel obligated to only take two so someone else could get two bars. They are on sale, there is a $5/2 Walgreens coupon, and there are $3/1 manufacturer’s coupons (including a Walgreens digital MQ). It’s the responsibility of Walgreens to keep the shelves stocked with enough product to meet demand.

Editing to add: I just checked the couponing websites to see the date of the first post announcing the upcoming Flintstones deal: Friday, January 5. The $5 off 2 sale started either Wednesday, January 10 or Thursday, January 11, depending on whether a regional ad starts Wednesday or Thursday. So if couponers learned about the upcoming moneymaker 5-6 days in advance of the first day of the sale, then Publix knew about (or should have known about it) longer than that. There is no excuse to for any store to run out of product by the third day of the sale if, as you say, you shopped on Saturday and found empty shelves.

      • Well said !!! Thank you for taking the words outta my mouth (but more eloquently…LOL)

Is the Walgreens deal still going on? I’ll have to check that out (love Cerave soap)

        • Cerave deal at Wags ends today as far as I know. I think it’s a weekly, not monthly, deal.

3.5-oz soap bars are $6.99 BOGO 50% ($10.49 for two)
$5/2 Wags coupon from monthly book
$3/1 Cerave printable (excludes 1-oz soap)

          I got the Blink Revilens 10-oz (on sale $9.79 – $5 Wags monthly book – $3 MQ IP – $3 Checkout51) and a 130-count Centrum ($6.99 monthly sale – $4 MQ – $4 SavingStar) to absorb the soap overage.

  2. In my paper here, this coupon:

Other option: $0.55/1 Progresso Organic Soup 01/07 SS (exp 3/3)

is a PUBLIX coupon (there’s an LU # at the bottom). Limit of ‘1’ per day but add that in, and there’s another $.55 savings 🙂

Making me want to go shopping now (tee hee)

    • Wow, I never looked at the insert coupon because I had the printables to use. Nice catch!

      Happy shopping!

  3. Maureen it’s directed specifically at you sorry for my frustration. At my store they don’t limit anything although know about the super couponers. I had contact with 2 of them myself several months ago. I went in for 2 razor packs & they had their cart full of them, at least 20 packs. When I asked if they had seen any more on the shelf they said no & I told them I only needed 2 but they wouldn’t share. I wasn’t really expecting them too & at least I could get a raincheck on that item, but there are a group of them around here that sell things at the flea market. That’s what bothers me, selling the items! Pretty soon the companies won’t give any great deals because of all the people selling them on line & flea markets. There are facebook groups here where people sell stockpile all the time!
