NEVER MISS A HOT DEAL! SUBSCRIBE TO OUR DAILY EMAIL NEWSLETTER!

Well, after a few weeks of emailed coupons from CVS, I am back in the doghouse.  No email on Thursday, and no surprise $/$$ coupon at the end of my receipt.  Nevertheless, I had enough good Red Coupon Machine coupons from last week and this week to score some great deals when paired with this week’s new coupons.  I am particularly happy about the Snuggle score.  I have plenty of laundry detergent and dryer sheets, but I am down to two bottles of liquid fabric softener, so the Snuggle liquid inclusion in the sale was very welcome.  I couldn’t get all the Snuggle yesterday because the coupon limit is one per trip, so I got most deals Sunday and finished Monday night.

As always, cashback rebates vary (in kind and value) by account.  Some offers may no longer be available to activate, and some print-at-home coupons may no longer be available to print.

  1. Ann Segler says:

HI, how is the Colgate Max a coupon match when the mq is for other types than Max? will this coupon work?

    • The sale includes three Colgate varieties, one of which is Total:

ONE COLGATE MAX 6 OZ., TOTAL 4-4.2 OZ. OR 2IN1 4.6 OZ, on sale $3.50 (reg. $4.69)

Colgate Max, Colgate Total, or Colgate 2in1. I bought the Total.

  2. This amazing! You did great! Did you do this all in one transaction or did you break this up, if so how did you break it up? Thank you.

    • As I said in the post, I had to make three trips for the Snuggle because of coupon limits. I also decided to get the Renuzit on the third and final trip Monday night. I had $53 in Extrabucks before shopping this week ($30 were expiring on 1/16), so I did not need to break down the other items into smaller transactions.

  3. Love your shopping trips!!!! 🙂

  4. Has anyone heard about changes to CVS’s coupon policy regarding the combination use of ECB and coupons?? On my trip on Saturday, the store clerk told me they received notice of changes but she wasn’t clear on how the changes were going to work.

    Thank you!!
    Sherri (following from Michigan)

    • The only change I know of concerns the stacking of $/$$ coupons where we need a minimum dollar amount to satisfy the coupon. Manufacturer coupons are like cash in that the store is reimbursed for them, so combining MQs and ECBs should not be a problem, especially since ECBs are like CVS Monopoly money and can be used on most products.

The change I do know of is that whereas before we could stack, for example, a $10/$40 total order CVS coupon and a $5/$25 facial care CVS coupon when buying $25 in facial care and $15 in other items, we now have to satisfy both minimums separately by buying $25 in facial care and $40 in additional products (and not have additional $/$$ coupons in the transaction).

We can still use multiple $/$$ CVS coupons for the same product. For example, I bought eight bottles of L’Oreal hair products @$4 each ($32 before coupons) and was able to use four $4/2 MQs, one $4/$18 any hair care CVS coupon, one $3/$10 L’Oreal hair care CVS coupon, and one $2/2 L’Oreal hair CVS coupon. The $/$$ coupons required me to spend a total of $28 in hair care with $10 being L’Oreal, so the $32 was high enough to cover both $/$$ coupons.

As far as I know, we can still stack CVS coupons for a specific number of products (like $4/1 Revlon) with a $/$$ coupon (like $3/$12 cosmetics) if we have $12 in cosmetics and at least one Revlon cosmetic product. We would also be able to use a Revlon cosmetic MQ.

However, we are at the start of a new year, and CVS has been tightening policies. Body washes and bar soaps were taken off the list of qualifying Beauty Club products last June. Hair care appliances, like hair dryers or curling irons, were taken off the Beauty Club list in December. More changes could be coming in 2018 regarding qualifying products.

CVS is making changes, but it’s hard to know if a coupon doesn’t work because of a glitch that will be fixed or due to an actual change in policy. The CVS IT team responsible for coding the way coupons are processed have to write code for 50 states that have varying policies regarding tax and taxable items (e.g., vitamins are taxable in Connecticut but not in Florida), and I think whenever a global policy change is introduced, all those location-specific variants are prone to glitching.

      Time will tell.

      • I just have to say………….YOU ARE AWESOME !!! in your explanations and shopping trips.
A true inspiration to us all !!! Love, Love, love it. 🙂

  5. I have a question. I received 2 coupons for 50% off Loreal hair care(up to $99.00), plus another one for 40% off Loreal hair care, all from the same visit to the Red machine. Am I allowed to use these all at the same time? Or will they only allow me to use one per transaction.
I’m thinking that if I can use both of the 50% coupons, then I can get my 6 bottles of Loreal shampoo& conditioner for free. Does anyone know if this will work? Planning to go today, so I need answers. 🙂

    • I don’t know. If you want an answer before shopping, you should call the CVS customer service people. The number is on the back of your ExtraCare card.

      • Hmmmm. . . . I called and they said that since the coupons have different coupon numbers, below the bar codes, that they SHOULD work, but now I am thinking that since the Loreal is on sale this week, they won’t work. It says in the small print, ‘Excluding sale items’. 🙁

        • That is true. %-off coupons only apply to items at regular price. I didn’t think of that.

I do not believe the L’Oreal treatments are included in the promotion to get $10 ECB for spending $30, but if you printed the $2.50/1 treatment coupons (possibly still available to print), you could score a good deal with the %-off coupons and Beauty Club kickback.

The treatments at my store are $7.59 each. If you bought four and used the 50%-off coupon and four $2.50/1 MQs, you would pay $5.18 + tax and get $3 from Beauty Club. Worst case would be $2.18 + tax for four treatments.

I don’t know how the separate 40%-off coupon will work. I can’t believe you’d get 90% off the regular price, but maybe you’d get 40% off what remains after the 50% is applied. If that happens, you’d have a $3-$4 moneymaker after Beauty Club. And if you DO get a $10 ECB for spending $30 on L’Oreal hair care, you’d have a huge moneymaker.

  6. Love reading about your shopping trips! Very, very helpful! I did not get the Revlon coupon at the Red Coupon machine last week??? Also, I do not get many good coupons from the Red Coupon Machine??? I did not get email coupons for a while, but now have been getting $5 off of $25 pretty regularly. I wish I understood how it worked, but I don’t think anyone does!

    • Every week, you have to keep scanning your card at the Coupon Center until no new coupons come out. I’ve scanned my card five or six times in succession some weeks and received new coupons on each scan. You usually get a long strip the first time and fewer coupons on subsequent scans. But the “instant” coupons printing for everyone sometimes don’t print on the first scan.

      • Does that mean that I can scan my card more than once per week and I might possibly get more coupons than scanning just once per week ?

        • You only get one set of coupons per week. If you log into your CVS account on Sunday morning, you will see all the personalized coupons that will print from the Coupon Center (Red Coupon Machine). You may have three personalized coupons or you may have 21. Sometimes you have to scan your card at the store more than once to print them all.

If you have 18 new personalized coupons in your account on Sunday morning and get a strip of 12 of those coupons when you scan your card the first time, the other six will still print if you keep scanning, whether you scan again during the same trip or on a different day that week. But you will only get one of each coupon no matter how many times you scan your card that week.

The “instant” coupons that are listed in the ad and that will print for everyone will not appear in your online account because those are not personalized. Everyone gets them. For example, this week there are two instant coupons: $2/2 L’Oreal hair and $2.50/1 Colgate toothpaste. Both are listed in the ad. You will only get one of each, no matter how many times you scan your card during the Sunday-Saturday sales week. They will never show up in your online account.

We also sometimes get surprise coupons that are not shown in the online gallery but that print from the machine when we scan our cards. In December, I received a $5/$10 coupon two weeks in a row good for any FSA-eligible products. Also, sometimes $/$$ coupons will print at the end of a receipt that may or may not be shown in the online gallery of personal coupons. Those do not print from the machine as a rule; they only print at the end of a receipt, so you have to buy something (even a $0.33 caramel) to get that coupon.

You will know if you got all your coupons from the machine that week if

          1) You did not send any coupons to your card and after two or more scans see a message on the Coupon Center screen telling you that you are a “Super Scanner.” When you get that message, no new coupons will print from the machine that week.

          2) You did send one or more coupons to your card, and you reach a point where the only thing coming out of the machine after multiple scans is a list of coupons previously sent to your card (no new coupons).

      • I’ve tried that before, and I usually get some message about no more coupons, but from now on, I will just keep trying! Thanks for the tip!

  7. Just on FYI on the new coupon policy. My last checkout I had 4 CVS app coupons one was the app only Arm and Hammer toothpaste and the others were MFR coupons I added to my card. They all came up as correct, but when the total button was pushed, they all removed. Manager added them all up and credited that amount. They said some of the red box coupons are MFR coupons and some not and the combination of MFR coupons and MFR EBs can cause issues. They admittedly didnt know what was triggering what, but it does seem a change is out there.
Thank you for your posts-really helps me save. Just received an email I am in the top 1% in Texas – now if they would just send me $ off emails!

  8. First of all I just want to say THANK YOU! THANK YOU so much! I look forward to seeing ur post on IG every week! 9. I purchase 4box CVS bandaids to get 5 eb:/had 4 C VS cpns /still had to pay some but they wouldn’t take but 1 cpn So put back

    • I don’t know what CVS coupon you used for CVS brand bandages. Does the fine print on the coupon say there is a limit of one coupon per household or per Extracare card?
