The roommate and I had a great trip to CVS today. I decided to test an Aveeno deal when I saw that the 2.5 oz lotions on the shelf were included in the Extra Bucks deal. The $2/1 coupon was a beeper, but my cashier decided this was not “travel size” and it was sold in the regular lotion aisle, instead of where the travel size items are located. Of course…you may have a different result. Also, the newspaper coupon has a limit of one per “person”, so we were able to use two since we shopped together.

  1. Hi Steve,
Good deals. Did you roll any ECB’s or did you pay oop?

    • Steve Pinski says

Rolled ECBs in both deals, but Stephanie’s card didn’t have a lot of ECBs so she had to pay a little more than I did. My card has a ton of Extra Bucks from some of the crazy Almay and Revlon deals we had about a month or two ago, so I’ve been rolling those ECBs for a long time.

  2. My cashier said I can’t use the BOGO coupon on the mentos nowmints. He said it is already buy one get one free. It is the same cashier that give me a hard time when I use coupons.

    • Steve Pinski says

You may want to have this link open on your phone and show them the second Suave Shampoo sample under the question “Can I use multiple coupons on sale items?” This should clear things up.

    • I’ve always called corporate with problems like that. If corporate knows they are losing business, it gets fixed real fast!!

    • Your cashier is wrong. You could print out their coupon policy and show it to that cashier.

      CVS coupon policy: http://www.cvs.com/bizcontent/general/contactus/couponpolicy.pdf?WT.ac=HELP-MostPopular-InStore-CouponPolicy

“Can I use multiple coupons on sale items?
Yes, for certain coupons and certain sale items.
      Examples:

      • Suave shampoo is on sale for $2.00 Buy One, Get One Free (BOGO)
and the customer purchases two shampoos; the customer may use two coupons for
$1.00 each and pay the applicable tax.

      • Suave shampoo is on sale for $2.00 BOGO and customer has a mfr. coupon for
Suave BOGO. Customer will receive both items for free but will need to pay any
      applicable tax.”

  3. You say your Net Profit is with ExtraCare Bucks and with ibotta. But what is the price paid at the time? ExtraCare Bucks come to you after you buy it. And what about ibotta? The Propeller is $2. You get it back, but you still have to pay $2 first

    • We note the price at register before Extra Bucks and rebates for each deal under the individual deal.

If you add up the individual “price at register” costs, you’ll see the out-of-pocket price you would pay if you bought everything in one transaction and had no Extra Bucks to roll.

We don’t do that for the entire trip in our breakdowns because we usually pay with Extra Bucks earned in the prior week, so there is very little paid out of pocket.

And some people will break up a large order into smaller orders during one trip to the store and use the Extra Bucks earned in one transaction to pay for the next one. For example, you could start with the Maybelline deal and pay $3.98 plus tax but earn $5 Extra Bucks. Then do the Scrubbing Bubbles deal, paying $0.98 plus tax because you used the $5 Extra Bucks from Maybelline to lower the out-of-packet cost, but then will earn $4 Extra Bucks from Scrubbing Bubbles. Then use the $4 Scrubbing Bubbles Extra Bucks to lower the cost for the next deal.

How much someone actually has to shell out in cash entirely depends on whether they have Extra Bucks from past deals and how they structure the transaction (paying for everything in one large transaction or breaking up the weekly deals into smaller transactions and rolling the Extra Bucks).

  4. For the Aveeno deal above, will the ip for $3/2 Aveeno and $2/1 Aveeno Body Product coupon work?

    • Steve used the $2/1 Aveeno Body Product in his write-up, but it has a limit of one per person. I don’t have the $3/2 printable, so I don’t know if it can be used on a 2.5 oz lotion. Many Aveeno coupons exclude the 2.5-oz products or specify a particular product.

  5. Also, there is a $2 off 2 Aveeno coupon on their website. If you have two people, you could use that plus the $1 off 1 to make it an even bigger moneymaker!

  6. I tried purchasing the 2.5oz Aveeno & use the $2q. It beeped so, they wouldn’t let me use it.
