WELL SHOOT, WE HAVE A PROBLEM. Maureen messaged me to let me know that the Publix store coupon for Maybelline has a limit of one per household per day. I…messed…up. I haven’t been shopping much at Publix lately and didn’t even think to look at this. This is a pretty new development.

We had a GREAT trip to Publix this morning! We both went to the store so we could each use eight Maybelline store coupons. These Maybelline deals are a little better starting Sunday 3/12 if your store considers Target a competing store. That’s when we will have an in-ad store coupon for a $5 Target Gift Card with a $20 Beauty/Personal Care purchase. However, we had some $5/$40 Winn-Dixie coupons from home mailers and we decided to just do our shopping today since we already have plans for the Target in-ad coupon.

Both of us did a transaction and both of us used a $5 off $40 Winn-Dixie coupon, so there’s an extra $10 of savings in the final stats for this shopping trip beyond what is listed with the individual items. Here’s what we bought, along with the coupons used:

  1. So the question will be…………are you going to go back to the store and “make it right” (which would the moral and ethical thing to do, right?)
    That is a HUGE boo-boo.

    • Steve Pinski says

It is a huge boo-boo. I’m a bit torn here, because here’s what will probably happen if I do the return.

Let’s say I return 15 items (everything but one mascara.)
      Seven eyeliners = $17.43
      Three concealers = $13.47
      Five mascaras = $26.95
      ————————-
Total they will refund me if I return them = $57.85
Even if they deduct the Publix coupons = $30 less
That means if I take them back, they will actually hand me a big pile of money (at least $27.85 plus a refund on all the sales tax = over $30)
Because on a return they never deduct the manufacturer’s coupons that they will submit to the manufacturer.

So, the question is…which is better after I made a mistake like this? Let it go, or return the items and possibly make it worse?

      • While I see the issue, publix recently reported their strongest profits ever.(not really that important to this, but even with the way they were doing business clearly doesn’t hurt their bottom line) Returning the items I think would be the issue in my eyes. Because of recent changes in coupon terms and the cashier not realizing the policy either, I would leave it as is and not loose any sleep.

        • Steve Pinski says

I’ve been thinking about this some more and I think the best thing to do isn’t to return them and end up getting a bunch of unintended and unearned cash back. That’s exactly what would happen because I’m sure Publix would follow their usual policy on returns. They would insist on it.

In light of the situation I think it’s probably the best course of action to just toss them all in the donation box for a women’s shelter and be done with it. Going forward, I need to watch stuff like that. Even a seasoned pro can have an amateur day.

          • Hey Steve, as a Publix owner/employee, please, concider our mistake your gain and keep the product. Wasn’t aware of this policy either but will double check in the am!

  2. Cindi Wales says

My Publix sale ad and the app DO NOT have the Hormel meatloaf as a BOGO!

    • Steve Pinski says

Did you check in the store? I think it is unadvertised. All the Hormel Entrees were tagged BOGO $5.99 at my store.

    • It’s an unadvertised sale, so you won’t see it listed in the ad or on the app. I bought two Hormel Pork Roast entrees for BOGO $5.99 last night. All the Hormel entrees were tagged with BOGO sale signs at my store.

  3. Jean Gardner says

I noticed on the last Publix Health and Beauty Flyer that the Always $2.00 coupon and the $1.00 Suave Body Wash coupon were listed as one per customer per day…… I noticed this AFTER I had bought 3 of them in one shopping trip…….. obviously that cashier didn’t notice the wording and neither did I……..they were accepted at the cash register which I think is maybe part of the problem…… they are not rejected…But after I noticed it, I did several trips to Publix purchasing one at a time…..

  4. Steve, it was an honest mistake. Do what you want with the Maybelline.
