Publix Shoppers: Upromise participation ending 12/31/15!

upromise-publixHere’s some unfortunate Publix news. I stopped in at Publix to do a shopping trip yesterday and my store was out of a few key items. I took my two lonely bottles of Gold Peak Tea to the register and my cashier, knowing I am someone that uses a Upromise keytag, gave me a tearpad with some news I didn’t want to hear.

After 12/31/15, Publix will no longer participate in the Upromise cashback program.

However, it is my understanding – although not confirmed by anyone of significance at Publix – that we may still have SavingStar still available, but we will need to upload receipts instead of automatically getting the savings through the scanned cards at checkout.

We’ll let you know when we hear more developments.

  1. Here is the email I got from Savingstar:
    Dear SavingStar Member,

    Important Account Change: Publix

The way you save at Publix stores will soon change. Starting January 1, 2016, Publix will transition from an “automatic” (loyalty card/key tag) retailer and instead participate as a receipt-scanning retailer. This means that you will redeem SavingStar offers at all Publix stores by submitting a picture of your receipt instead of linking SavingStar offers to Publix key tags. Your SavingStar account balances and One or Many progress will stay the same during this transition.

All SavingStar offers must be redeemed at Publix stores using your key tags by December 31, 2015 (rewards will post to your account on or before January 5, 2016). Starting January 1, 2016, all redemptions will be credited when you submit a picture of your receipt, either through the or the iPhone or Android app.

This change was a corporate decision made by Publix. We very much appreciate our twelve-year relationship with Publix and thank them for their participation in SavingStar and Upromise.

    Other Retailers
You can still use SavingStar to save! We work at over 62,000 stores including CVS, Harris Teeter, Kmart, Piggly Wiggly, Rite-Aid and more! Simply visit or the iPhone or Android app to add other stores you shop with to your account.

For a complete list of our retailers, please visit our Participating Retailers page.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Thank you for using SavingStar!

I got same email about savingstar redemption at winndixie!but you still need to scan your store card even though there will be no automatic redemption!

  3. Bummer for both Winn Dixie and Publix. I wonder if enough folks sent a quick note to corporate ears, would the policy change.
I realize receipts can be scanned, blah..blah…but using the store card sure made life just a little easier!

  4. Anyone else feel like there has been a trend in the last couple years where deals and reward programs are going bye bye?

I used to be very into coupon deal seeking at publix and walgreens with their almost constant overlap of BOGO with coupons (publix) and RR stacks with coupons (walgreens) a year+ ago.

Now it seems those types of deals are a like finding a gem every few months. And this is usually a heavy deal season.

This upromise ending seems to be part of that trend.

I have definitely noticed it myself. However, my shopping habits have changed too so I know that has some to do with the changes in the deals that I see now days.
