UPDATE: I have received my Savings Catcher results and all of the deals listed here worked for me as planned. The only disappointment (although tiny) was that the Truvia price they used was $2 each at Publix, which is a little on the high side.

I had a great trip to Walmart this afternoon! I got some Savings Catcher results from a previous trip credited today, so I went back to stock up on some more great deals – even though I shopped at Walmart just one day before.

For those of you that don’t already know…I’ve been doing some experimenting with Walmart’s new Savings Catcher program. A few of the deals tend to go bad (but I return those items when Savings Catcher screws up), but most of them work out and I save a ton of money.

Most of the Publix Savings Catcher deals are working as advertised for those of us in Florida. When there has been a problem, I have given some time for them to fix deals. However, I have returned some items when they have screwed up deals. I’ve managed to keep my net spending consistent with my write-ups of the shopping trips due to some dumb luck. It’s tricky to explain, but when they fix something they have been crediting a Walmart gift card – which does not double like Bluebird. However, I have gotten some stray credits on items that I actually returned with receipt when they screwed them up originally. All-in-all, I’m saving at extremely close to the rate I should have saved if they had just done all the price matching with Savings Catcher correctly.

Considering how awesome the deals have been, I’m going to try not to complain too much ;)

In Florida ONLY, Walmart Savings Catcher is price matching BOGOs in competitor’s ads even if no price is specified. In their FAQs it states: “IN FLORIDA: Savings Catcher will match competitor Buy One Get One free (BOGO) deals at the “Save up to” price when no item price is listed.
For example, “Peter Pan Peanut Butter, buy one, get one free. Save up to $3.50.” will be compared as follows: Competitor BOGO “Save up to $3.50” means that each Peter Pan Peanut Butter costs $1.75 ($3.50 / 2 = $1.75). If the Walmart price for one Peter Pan Peanut Butter is $3.00, you would then get back $1.25 on each Peter Pan Peanut Butter you buy at Walmart ($3.00 – $1.75 = $1.25).”

If you followed my first trip, then you should now know that Savings Catcher failed on every deal I tried to do which correlated to the Winn-Dixie and Save-a-Lot ads. I DO NOT recommend trying to do deals for those stores at Walmart at this time. Most (but not all) of the Publix deals worked out.

Through 2/28/15, you can transfer your Savings Catcher rebate dollars to an AMEX Bluebird account and AMEX will double them up to a total of $599.99! (AMEX Bluebird is free and doesn’t require credit; it’s a reloadable card.)

So…although my trip hasn’t been scored by SavingsCatcher yet, I’ve listed the trip the way it should work. Of course, I’m keeping copies of my ads and receipts just in case they screw it up.

REMEMBER, Publix BOGOs will ONLY work on the Savings Catcher program for those of us in Florida. This trip consisted of deals matching the Publix ad, but I will try to do deals from CVS, Walgreens and Target when possible.

Note that I was very careful to match sizes and exclusions in the ads. PAY EXTREMELY CLOSE ATTENTION SO YOU DON’T GET STUCK PAYING FULL PRICE FOR ANYTHING!

Today my out-of-pocket expense was ZERO. I paid the entirety of my bill with previously earned SavingsCatcher AMEX Bluebird and Walmart Gift Cards.

Good deals! I am out of LOL coupons, but I’ll get more, too. I don’t know when I’ll ever be able to get butter for $0.22/lb again. I was going to check the Truvia price when I shopped for more, so thanks for doing the work!

    • Steve Pinski says:

Yeah I have 10 lbs now. Might buy another 4 or 6 before this sale ends. At this price, I can commit some of my limited freezer space to butter.

    • Don’t know if you already know this, but for prices, look at the Publix website. Click on where you can look at the weekly ad, and then under it is the price comparison. They have a comparison of prices for Walmart vs Publix and they get the prices from Walmart in Brandon, FL. May be a slightly different price from city to city, but I think it gives a pretty good idea.

  2. So I finally got back some results back this morning from a dispute I started in early December. Savings catcher found a few bucks from a bread BOGO at Publix (I had lots of misses on that receipt and didn’t dispute anything else because I decided to just return it all instead). When I went to transfer it to a WalMart gift card, I actually had the option of putting it back on my Bluebird card, thus doubling!!
I guess I’m back in the game after all!

  3. I just had a thought !! I am in the same boat as you when it comes to disputes and wanting to return the items. You say that they did not reimburse you for the coupons you used. Here’s a thought :-)…..they get reimbursed for the coupons when they turn them in!!! So they are “making money”. When I do my returns, I am going to let them know that I should be reimbursed the entire purchase price, as they are getting their money back for the coupon so I should too. Thoughts ???

I finally had to call today to talk to a supervisor. I had a very large sum of money accrued, and I have been waiting for almost 2 months on some of my disputes. According to the TOS, if money is in your SC account at the end of the calendar year……it automatically….yes automatically gets disbursed as an E-gift card. So I made the supervisor tell me that if I moved the money to BB, I would not be in jeopardy of losing the money from my challenges……..I was told I wouldn’t lose that money and then I verified that all their calls are recorded !! LOL.

I immediately went shopping 🙂 I’m with Christie – – “BACK IN THE GAME”. (finally)

    • Steve Pinski says:

After that first time when they screwed me out of my coupons, I usually just returned without receipt so I got the full amount on a gift card.

  4. Here is another good Savings Catcher deal on Stoffer’s Family Size Entree’s

Stoffer’s Family Size Entree 1-40 ox pkg, regular price $7.98 (Publix price is only $4.99 with current sale)
    Walmart total = $7.98
    Publix total = $4.99 ($2.99 difference)
Get $2.99 cashback from Savings Catcher for Publix price match
Get $2.99 cashback from AMEX Bluebird
    No Coupons Used
Price at Register: $7.98, but will get $5.98 cashback from Savings Catcher and AMEX Bluebird
    NET PRICE: $2.00 Each

    • MauraFlorida says:

Nice deal, Tony! Thank you for sharing it. I have four $1/1 MQs for the dinners. Now to find freezer space . . . . .

I am getting more LOL butter, and I am also getting a couple boxes of Chex cereal. Not sure what the Walmart price is, but it’s BOGO $3.69 at Publix, and I have two $.075/1 MQs and a $1/2 Savingstar offer. Should be at least free after SC/BB.

      • Monica Bragg says:

You may already know this but there is a price comparison tool on the Publix website. It is probably not 100% accurate but it may get you close. Here is the link

        http://weeklyad.publix.com/Publix/BrowseByPage/Index/?StoreID=2650717&PromotionCode=Publix-141217PCc&PromotionViewMode=1#PageNumber=2

        • MauraFlorida says:

Thank you, Monica. I do know, but the 12-14-oz Chex prices range from 2.50-3.28 per box at Walmart, depending on variety, and I have not checked Publix to see which varieties are included in the BOGO. The plain ones, like corn and rice, are $2.50, but the honey nut and cinnamon varieties are $3.28. If the higher priced ones are included in the sale, I’ll get a couple of boxes at Walmart.

          • MauraFlorida says:

One more thing, I need to make sure the Stouffer’s are not part of the three-week deal (Love to Shop Here, Love to Save Here). We are on week two, and the sale items are only in the ad on the first week of the sale. I think Michelle at IHP had this item listed in as one of those deals.

          • Monica Bragg says:

Good deal. I figured that you knew about it but just in case I thought I would share.

  5. Pauline Solliday says:

If I don’t have a Publix near me may I still savings match to it and take advantage of the Savings Catcher and Am Ex card Bluebird ??? I’m so jealous of the outrageous butter price you scored.
    Sincerley,
    Pauline

    • Monica Bragg says:

You would need to find out what stores your Walmart Savings Catcher considers competitors.

    • MauraFlorida says:

The point of Savings Catcher is to give you the advertised sales of your Walmart’s local competitors, so if you don’t live near a Publix, Savings Catcher will not match a Publix advertised sale. You cannot choose the stores the app will match. To find out what stores Savings Catcher will match for you, you have to sign up for the program and submit a Walmart receipt using a mobile app. Just buy something small like a package of gum, and then you’ll know which retailer ads the Savings Catcher app includes for you when you submit the receipt.

  6. MauraFlorida says:

My Truvia receipt came in, and they used $1.90. I was expecting $2.00. Go figure.

  7. I also purchased Truvia (8 of ’em). I won’t know until tomorrow, but I noticed that the price in the ad does say save up to $3.99. I hope they mark mine a little low too but either way……..it would still be a good deal.

Thanks for the update on letting us know everything worked………..cuz I stocked up.

And don’t laugh………but the Chicken of the Sea Salmon you bought on your first trip……………..makes a FANTABULOUS cat food (I have 3 cats) and it is free !!! 😮

    • Steve Pinski says:

I actually liked the salmon pouches when I tried them the first time that coupon was available and I’m not a big salmon fan. They’re for me 🙂

      • I thought it tasted pretty good too *and I like Salmon* but…….in a pinch, I have cat food too !
So far, I have purchased a ton of them between two Walmarts.

FYI – – Mine coupon credit started turning “GREEN” after about the 6th one (at the self check-out).
When the Manager came over to push the rest of them through manually, she told me that the machine is set to ‘stop’ after 20 coupons (GOOD TO KNOW) due to extensive coupon fraud.
So that is why they it notifies that Assistance is Needed. She reviewed them all and determined that I was good to go, so she pushed them all thru.

        • OOPS……that should be FYI – – – MY coupon……

          • Steve Pinski says:

Ahhh that’s good to know about 20 being a trigger. Split orders to avoid holdups if necessary. Noted 🙂

          • MauraFlorida says:

Funny. I bought 10 Truvia on one receipt. That is all I had, and I used 10 MQs. For the first time in memory, the machine did not lock up on me, and I rarely have as many as 20 coupons in self checkout. The registers usually freeze when I have a coupon for every item I am buying. I don’t know why I didn’t have a problem this time.

  8. Sorry for the last minute notice for this deal but it took 5 days to get this back from Walmart Savingscatcher with an approval.

TWO Ocean Spray Craisins 10 ounce ORIGINAL, regular price $2.98 (Publix price is only $1.50 with sale)

    Walmart total = $5.96
    Publix total = $3.00 ($2.98 difference)

Get $2.96 cashback from Savings Catcher for Publix price match
Get $2.96 cashback from AMEX Bluebird

Price at Register: $5.96, but get $5.92 cashback from Savings Catcher and AMEX Bluebird
NET PRICE FOR ALL: $.04 (or $0.02 each!) No coupons needed

    Good stocking up price!
