I don’t have any family commitments until later this afternoon and today’s a much slower day for deals, so I decided to visit a few Walgreens stores a little further away from my home. I was hoping to find more Almay clearance and I hit the jackpot at two stores. Between the two stores, I found TWELVE clearance Almay i-Color Eye Shadows (#130, #140 and #145) for only $2.19 each. One store didn’t have them marked, but a price check revealed that they were on clearance at that price.

Altogether, I visited three stores this morning/afternoon. At the first one, I only bought Almay (three transactions.) At the second one, I did my last Almay transaction and then did the first Schick/Wal-Dryl transaction. The last store I visited was one closer to home, and that’s where I did my last Schick/Wal-Dryl deal and my big transaction at the end.

I found lots of lip balms and makeup removers in stock, but I didn’t buy any, because I don’t have any more $3/1 Almay coupons 🙁

Points listed in the transactions below are valued at $1.25 per 1000 points earned, because I (almost) always redeem my points in groups of 40,000 since they are worth $50 that way (and that’s $1.25 per 1000 points earned.)

Here are some points that aren’t listed with the individual items below:
Transactions #1-#4 had 80 total Everyday Points earned ($0.08-$0.10)
Transactions #5-#6 had 640 total Everyday Points earned ($0.64-$0.80)
Transaction #7 had 490 Everyday Points earned ($0.49-$0.61)
I earned two more 5000 point rewards for completing two $50 increments of qualifying Beauty items – 10,000 Balance Rewards points earned ($10-$12.50)
Total for all these points not listed with individual items = 11,210 ($11.21-$14.01 value; I will be using the $1.25 per 1000 value of $14.01 extra savings in the stats for this trip.)

  1. There were some chips marked down in my Wags. Found PopChips BBQ marked down to .39. There were others but not as cheap.

  2. Thank you for sharing your deal ideas with breakdowns. Not many sites out
there that show this anymore. So happy I found your site. Happy Shopping.

    • Steve Pinski says:

You’re welcome! Now go get yours!!!

      • Sharon Cook says:

I have been couponing for several years so not new..went to Wags yesterday to do the Almay eyeshadows, of course my store had none clearanced all gone. The L’Oreal compacts they did have clearanced at like 6.79. Expected to purchase 4, get the B1G1@50%, use (4) 2.00/1 coupons and (4) in April book coupons..all as shown in your deals. The clerk immediately explains that since the item is clearanced, I will not get the B1G1@50%. When I questioned it she stated this policy began about 4 months ago. My Wags is horrible, I stopped shopping there about 2 years ago because they tend to write their own policy as they go. Thought things might change, but no such luck. I am really sick of this and read their online policy this morning..no mention to this. You are showing this and did it, and I am sure your store follows policy, look at the deals in the past 2 weeks you have had…do others have this issue???

        • Steve Pinski says:

I’m curious…since the register automatically would’ve made the second L’Oreal 50% off, did your cashier manually price adjust it to take away your discount? That’s messed up.

I do readily admit that Walgreens is the most hit-and-miss type store. I had one store try to limit me to two identical items once when I needed to buy four items to have enough spending to earn the points for an advertised deal. Needless to say, I never went back there. There are tons of Walgreens where I live, so I don’t have to deal with that. However, if that happened at the store closest to my house, you can bet I would’ve raised a huge stink over it. (If one of my neighborhood stores tries to do something ridiculous, I’ll call the corporate office and get them corrected. It usually only takes one good correction from someone up the chain to get the local store to stop being ridiculous.)

With that said, sorry that your store is being weird like that.

          • The items never made it to the register, the clerk that was looking to see if they had anymore of the Almay eye pallettes stated this rule. I have read the online policy and it states no such rule. I am calling corporate today to get this cleared up.
This is the only Walgreen’s in my area but they are ridiculous to deal with. Hoping that a call to corporate will shake them up to follow the rules.
Thank you very much for you input. From here out I will program their corp. number to my cell phone and when I have a problem call it in from the store.
Love the couponing, just not some stores that won’t get it.
Many Thanks. Again, so happy I stumbled onto your site. Just love it.
            Sharon

          • Steve Pinski says:

Good luck with whipping your store into line 🙂

  3. When using the Walgreens monthly savings coupon on more than one item, can we use the same single paper coupon? Or do we have to cut one out of a book for each item being purchased ?

    • One. You can also clip it digitally, and it will stay in your account until it expires. You can use it over and over.

    • The monthly comes off all the products for that one coupon. This is a Walgreens savings. The ones from the paper are manufacturers coupons.

  4. I went to 4 Walgreen’s and none of them had the Almay on sale BOGO 🙁

  5. Your store still has the BOGO 50% on the Almay products? I was thinking since it was not in the new ad it expired yesterday? I saw other brands were still advertised just not the Almay this week. I was hoping it was still on, Thanks!

  6. ShopGirl says:

There’s no BOGO 50% Almay in our store and no Catalina too. Still a good deal though.

  7. Just wondering says:

If I pay with $40 worth of points, I can take $50 worth of products?

  8. I am so confused. What do u use to pay for each transaction? I have $10 in points and $5 BE. Use transaction six ofr an explanation if you can please and thank u! I am enjoying your site.

    • Steve Pinski says:

I paid very little. The first transactions with Almay were less than $1 including the tax. I used four previously earned $5 Almay RRs to pay for each transaction with Schick & Wal-Dryl, making my out of pocket just $0.97 plus tax. The last transaction I paid for with $50 of points and a $5 Almay and $10 Schick Register Reward. I only paid some sales tax.

  9. Elizabeth Aguirre says:

If you use points to pay for the razors, do you still get points towards your $50 increments of qualifying Beauty items?

    • Steve Pinski says:

You do not. The portion paid with points does not count. Also, it is VERY DANGEROUS to pay with points when doing a Register Reward or Points deal that requires you to buy a certain dollar amount. If you pay for the Schick deal with points, there’s a good chance your Register Reward will not print.

  10. how many different booklets did you use? This would be my first time shopping in the Walgreens (newbie)… do you know what would be my OOP from scratch? I see that you rolled a lot of points… what about if i didn’t have any points. how much would i have to spend OOP?

    • Steve Pinski says:

Without redeeming any points or Register Rewards, you will pay the amount where it says “Price at Register:”

  11. how many different booklets did you use? This would be my first time shopping in the Walgreens (newbie)…

    • Steve Pinski says:

You only need one store coupon booklet and you do not have to cut the coupons out. They just need to scan the coupon you are using and it will apply to every item it matches in the transaction.

  12. Just wondering, when you show a profit does Wags actually give the money back? thanks!

    • Steve Pinski says:

Sometimes it is points or Register Rewards good on future purchases, but in this case I got $16 cashback from Checkout51 for buying the Barbasol and Pure Silk Razors and $4.50 in cashback from SavingStar, so I really did make cash.

  13. I live alone and can’t possibly use all the personal items I get. I know the shelters, etc. are always in need, so at Christmas time I gather up all the excess and donate the items. It’s real feel good.

  14. Aymet Hashmi says:

Just following up, I went to my Walgreens and I found only 3 pieces of Almay eye shadow #145 but since was clearance didn’t apply 50% off of second one, so I pay $1.15 for 3 and got $5 Catalina, after all no bad at all. Also thank you for the info I download the almay coupon on my card because my store never have them and went well. Thanks
