walgreens-091116I had a great trip to Walgreens today! I managed to get everything on my list. I was shocked when I found the Brookside Bars in stock. FYI – We’ve tried both of the dark chocolate varieties and they are really good! Also, I went on my Walgreens Balance Rewards account online to look for the $3/2 Herbal Essences coupon. My account did not have that one, but I did have a $4/2 Aussie Hair Care coupon to load. That scored me a moneymaker!

I threw my receipt away after I did my Checkout51 redemption for the Crunchmaster Crackers, but I THINK I have the correct regular prices for everything in my notes. Here’s what I bought, along with the coupons used:

I also used the in-ad store coupon for 5x Everyday Points with $10+ purchase. This coupon is on the front cover of the ad. I THINK I earned 11,500 points (value $1.15-$1.44 when redeemed.) The $1.44 max value is what I used in the statistics below.

Total Retail Value of All Merchandise: $38.06
Net Price Paid for Everything: $2.98 PROFIT!
Savings Rate (excluding tax): 107.8%

Extreme Couponing Tip: You can usually get two prints of most internet coupons. To find them in the easiest possible way, use our preclipped links that take you right to the coupon. 1. Nice trip, does this in-ad store coupon for 5x Everyday Points with $10+ purchase comes off after the total is $10 after all coupons or before coupons?

    • Steve Pinski says:

It comes AFTER any sales and store coupons, but BEFORE any manufacturer’s coupons are deducted. However, if you redeem a Walgreens gift card or Balance Rewards points it could reduce or eliminate the Everyday Points earned.

      • I don’t really shop at waslgreens but they had good sale on starbucks refreshers last week, buy 2 for $3 get 1000 points. I had 5x times when you spend $10 digital coupon loaded to my card and i bought 8 refreshers $12 total and use seven 0.50/1 printable coupons. On my receipt it shows this:
        Purchase: Buy 2, Get 1000 pts +4000
Purchase: Sept 7 day Opt In +480
        Total Points: +4480
That means I did not get 5x times points right? This is so confusing

        • Oh and i paid with credit card only, have not redeemed any points in this transaction.

        • Steve Pinski says:

Hmmmm this is a bit bizarre. It looks like you got the extra points for the 5x Everyday Points, but I don’t see your regular Everyday Points. I think you should have an entry for 1x Everyday Points (which is 120 points) and then a second entry for the other 4x points (which is your bonus to give you 5x total) which would be 480 more points. I wonder why you didn’t get the other 120. The good news is that the points you got shorted are only worth $0.12-$0.15 total.

  2. need your help to reduce my oop. if i want to do the aussie / mouthwash / and nut deal. which will be the order to pay less OOP. ๐Ÿ™‚ TIA

    • Steve Pinski says:

If you have $3 of points to use, you should still get the points for the fruit and nut bar deal since it is “Buy three bars” and not “Buy $3.” Here’s what I would do…
Transaction #1 – Buy three bars for $3 total and use points if you have them to pay. Earn 3000 new points
Transaction #2 – Buy the Aussie and use the $4/2 digital coupon if you have it. Also buy two mouthwashes and use two $2/1 coupons. Total is $3.98. Use those 3000 points earned in Transaction #1. Pay $0.98 and get the $2 & $3.50 Register Rewards for the future.

  3. Interesting trip to Walgreens today: I purchased 2 Crest/Scope MW, 2 Aussie products (shampoo and conditioner), 2 Crunchmaster, and 2 2 ltr. drinks. I used 2 $2 Crest coupons, and the printables for the drinks and Crunchmaster. The Aussie $4/2 Clip2Card didn’t come off?? Luckily I had my phone and showed the coupon to the manager after she was called. And then I didn’t get any bonus points at all. I overheard one of the managers say that her manager told her to clear all the Aussie off the shelves! She said that these coupon websites post this stuff and then we sell out cause people get this stuff free. Well, what in the world??? I was a little taken aback. They ended up manually fixing the digital coupon but it was a long, weary process and I’m not happy at all about the bonus points. I will be calling CS about this. I’m not a HUGE Walgreens fan, I prefer CVS, and stuff like this just solidifies why! Anyway, wasn’t sure if anyone else had the problem with the Aussie coupon.
Thanks for all your help, usually works like a charm!

    • Steve Pinski says:

Wow, Joyce, you’re the second person who had a problem with the Aussie eCoupon not deducting. I wonder if they don’t have it coded properly for all the products.

I hear you on CVS vs. Walgreens. This was my first Walgreens trip in a LONG time. I will be heading to CVS tomorrow if my newspaper inserts arrive. (The company buys mine where Fred lives since they have RPs and he sends them to me each week.)

      • THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO……..HMMMMMMMMM

I went to Walgreen’s last week and purchased the refreshers and some Crunch Masters (when they were 2/$4.00. Before I started my purchased, I informed the cashier that I had a clipped coupon on my account for the refresher.
She immediately asked me if I had “their store” selected as my preferred store? I asked her why and she said…………..the coupon will not come off in the store you make the purchase, unless it is the preferred store on your account. I immediately went into my account and changed my store to the address of the Walgreen’s I was at, and the coupon came off my purchase without a hitch.

That may explain why it is not deducting for everyone like it should. It makes no sense why it should have to be this way, but it might be the answer ???? ๐Ÿ™‚

        Just a thought.

        Have a FANTABULOUS evening.

Hmmmm I haven’t heard that previously. I just checked and the store they have listed as my preferred store is a store that I’ve never visited. I shopped at a different store and the ecoupon came off.

Guess you blew her theory outta the water !!! I guess she was just trying to give me a hard time that day (lol).

            Thanks Steve

Hahaha well…sometimes the cashiers do know a little secret. We never know until we try ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. CouponKlutz says:

I am trying to wrap my head around the everyday/bonus pts things. Can someone help?

    OOP (after store Q) 18.96
    5X pts bonus 950
    everyday 180
    Right?

    • Steve Pinski says:

If your out of pocket is $18.96, I think you will get 180 Everyday Points and then you will get another 4x for the bonus (to make a total of 5x), so the bonus should be 720.

Don’t quote me on that though; I haven’t been shopping a lot at Walgreens lately.
