I hope some of you with 24-hour stores in the Mountain and Pacific time zones saw my last-minute Facebook status update overnight. I got a tip about 11:30 pm Eastern and I had to run out the door immediately to test it out and it worked. Apparently, if your store activated the new sale early, you could get last week’s and this week’s Balance Rewards points on the Colgate toothpastes and toothbrushes. Going forward I will keep an eye on these possibilities and try them out earlier in the day.
I also noticed this morning that someone posted on our Facebook wall yesterday evening that this “double dip” was working on another deal as well. The Lays Potato Chips were ringing up BOGO on the old sale and 2/$5 on the new sale, making them 4/$5 if your store had activated the old sale early. Wow!
Anyways, here is what I jammed into my last minute transactions last night. I had enough coupons to do this a third time, but it was too close to midnight to get any more transactions in before the first sale cut off. (Note that the Colgates had a limit of four like coupons per transaction, so I had to break this deal up a bit.) If I had more time to plan, I would’ve bought more Estroven, as there was still some on a display even though the normal shelf spot was bare.
By the way, this Colgate deal is not a very good deal without the overlapping Balance Rewards points. We see much better deals than $2.24 after coupon and get back 1500 points (value $1.50-$1.87.) Anything more than a quarter a tube is too much to pay for toothpaste unless you are in a jam. (Really, anything more than sales tax is probably too much.)

My out-of-pocket was really high because I didn’t have time to plan this better, but there are a bunch of rebates in next month’s Walgreens monthly coupon book (I think it’s $95 total), so I should have no trouble converting these points back into cash or a rebate card. (I did save some out-of-pocket cash by using the Estroven RR on the Colgate transactions.)
Total Retail Value of All Merchandise: $89.80
Net Price Paid for Everything: $28.16 PROFIT!
Savings Rate (excluding tax): 131.4%

Hey steve I dont understand how you get 12 profit. Here in so cal 1k pts =$1 ?
1K points = $1 if you don’t save them. However, I will be using my points towards several rebates in the Walgreens February Coupon Book. I will redeem my points in blocks of 40K for $50, which makes 1K points = $1.25 because I hold them until I can do a large transaction.
how does the 40k for $ 50 work? I already have 41K. Does that mean I can buy $50.00 worth of items for 40?
You can redeem 40K points for $50, but it has to all happen in one transaction.
Do the points expire….and if so, do you know how long they are good for?
Points are good for three years unless you go inactive for six months.
That’s just sick. I would be on such a high if I had a deal like this. You rocked it!
Just wish I knew a few hours earlier so I could tell y’all sooner, plan it a little better to lower the out-of-pocket, and do it twice as many times
Still happy to get the tip and pull off this much
The downside is that I did come out of pocket for about $37 I think (tax included)
