Walgreens 1/13 – Profit $7.53 on $148.68 of Merchandise (105.1% Saved)

walgreens-011313Today was a pretty big Walgreens trip for me. It seems like it’s been a long time since I’ve done six transactions back-to-pack, but that’s exactly what I did today. By the way, I’m already on my second Lipton Pure Leaf Sweet Tea from today’s Walgreens trip; I think they are outstanding, although I wish they stocked a sugar-free variety at my store.

By the way, I’m only about 28 hours into my meds after visiting the doc yesterday and I’m feeling much, much better – almost 100%. In case you are wondering, indeed it is/was strep throat. Twenty-four hours after the first dose of penecillin you are no longer contagious, so let the shopping shenanigans continue!

  1. I am glad that you are feeling better…. I really enjoy your site. I found about it from a friend about a month ago. It has been very helpful. Thank you :)

  2. out… oops!

  3. My Walgreen didn’t take my lipton tea coupon

  4. Thank you for the post, would you mind telling me how much your out of pocket was?

    • I don’t have the receipts, but I can tell you very close to what it was…

I walked in with a $10 RR and used in on Transaction #1 – Paid $0.25 plus about $0.18 tax OOP
I used the $10 RR earned in T#1 to pay for T#2 – Paid nothing OOP and there was no sales tax
I used the $10 RR earned in T#2 to pay for T#3 – Paid $0.25 plus about $0.18 tax OOP
I used the $10 RR earned in T#3 to pay for T#4 – Paid nothing OOP and there was no sales tax
I used the $10 RR earned in T#4 to help pay for T#5 (plus I’m ashamed to say I cashed in some Balance Rewards points early 18K for $20) – Paid $2.99 plus $1.05 tax OOP
In T#6 I paid the full $5.47 plus about $0.70 tax OOP

So if you include the tax, it looks like I paid about $11.07 OOP, plus I left with only $3 RR from the tea when I started the day with a $10 RR (so that’s like spending $7 more.) I also spent a net of 14K Balance Rewards points (I spent 18K to redeem for $20, but I earned 4K back on the Crest.) But here’s the kicker…I earned $38.50 in rebates :)

  5. Hi Steve, do you do walgreens rebates very often? I usually dont do rebates in general because I had a couple lost in the mail in the past, I dont mind sending the P&G ones because the products are free or almost free, so if it gets lost it is not a huge loss. In my particular situation right now, I will be going out of the country for 3 weeks and I have about $80 in RR and not many deals to convert them to points (that dont expire), so I was looking into this rebates, have you experienced any problems with them? In how long do you usually get them? Do they mail to you or is there any other way?

I will really appreciate you input in this matter, thank you in advance.

    • It is usually several weeks. However, if you don’t mind passing up the 10% bonus for taking the rebate on a Walgreens rebate card, you could do this:

Submit the rebates online at http://www.walgreensrebates.com
Choose PayPal as your method of rebate. You won’t get the 10% bonus, but then you don’t have to worry about the mail.

  6. Hi I have a question about the estroven coupon. Do you Hand it over
Or does the cashier just scan it from the booklet??
