Now for the rest of the story..CVS (Monica) – $7.19 paid for $69.42 worth of merchandise (89.6% savings)

PTDC0145So here is the rest of the story… After I got done with my botched Walgreens trip I finally made it to CVS. I was so delighted that they still had Nivea tins on the shelf and I didn’t even take them all. I had already done the Eucerin clearance deals three times so I knew that I could only do the deal three more times. I didn’t have big plans for CVS this week so I got the Nivea and the Coke and preceeded to checkout.

When I got up there the only cashier was backed up and had to call someone else to come up to the front. It just so happened that it was the Asst. Manager. I rang up my Nivea first because I wanted to use those rewards to pay for my cokes. When the receipt printed out and there was an $18 ECB at the bottom he looked back up at the top of the receipt and then commented on how he really wished they would not make mistakes like this and that someone should lose their job and when several people “like me” do this then the company is losing alot of money. Then he tore my $18 ECB off. I thought he was going to keep it and that was not going to fly with me. I told him ummmm…..that is mine. He said with all sarcasm and spitefullness that he knew but he was going to use it for my coke purchase. It is a good thing that I planned on doing it that way because he would have seen a different side of me.  He went to ring up my 12 12pks and was going to use their shortcut at the counter to scan 12 Coke barcodes. I asked him politely to please scan the Mello Yello separately because I need for the receipt to say Mello Yello and not Coke. He asked if there was a specific reason why I needed that as he was rolling his eyes. I told him yes, because I needed to submit the receipt on my Ibotta app so I can get another $.75 back and the receipt has to say Mello Yello because I had problems once before when they rang them all up as coke. He did it but geez why do I have to tell him why I wanted it done that way. (Just to let you know when they did that before Ibotta denied my receipt but I sent them an email explaining what happened and they deposited all of the money with no other questions asked. I love Ibotta!) So here is how it went…

  1. No way! I was just about to go to Cvs :( how do you know?

    • Several people have commented this morning that the deal was no longer working for them. Nobody who has attempted the deal this morning has reported that it is still working :(

      • The 2 CVS stores near my town both closed at 6 on Sunday so I didn’t get to do the Nivea deal. I am off today, so I set my clock and got up to be there when they opened only to find the deal no longer working. Sucks for me!!! I dreamt of free Coke all night long!

  2. :) an item I could really use… not a good time to lose internet connection.

  3. If I am Monica, il be mean and tell that manager it is his job to do what the customer says. She isnot stealing. Given it is a glitch so what to the manager? Cvs has billions of money as if they will be bankrupt with $18! My local cvs manager has this attitude too. He hates when I ask for Raincheck and when I coupon and he is at the register.

  4. i hate when cashiers are rude about people saving money. i am a cashier and i love when i see people using coupons, i always make sure they are getting the right deals and are walking away with a smile :)

  5. Thats the attitude I deal with EVERYtime I use my coupons here in MIAMI. And not always from the clerks. I get it from the other customers behind me…. until they see that I spend less than what they pay for tax on their items. Then they ask how I did it. It’s horrible the attitude of some and even worse when its the managers. One time in Walgreens I went to purchase the Axe gift sets after Xmas sale (when they were 50% off). I went with my son cause he loves Axe and he wanted to pick what he liked. We found a huge stand filled with them, so we got 2 of each sent. The clerk at the cosmetic counter screamed from the other side and said “THOSE ARE NOT ON SALE!” I ignored her and continued towards the counter. She again said those are not on sale and finished with the lady infront of me (whom had tried to purchase 1 and was charged full price). I put my items on the counter and it rang up full price. She said SEE THEY ARENT ON SALE. I said well they are on sale in your ad and showed her the ad at that time. She huffed and puffed and called the manager over. The Axe gift sets were the one picture on the ad. The manager came over VERY angry and said I can’t sell those 2 u @ 50%. I said y not? They are in your ad? So u have to sell them to me at that price. Anyway at this point the lady that was in front of me noticed this and she picked up other ones as well. The manager finally agreed and while I was finishing my transaction came out with carts and started to throw all the gift sets in a basket while screaming that they are not allowed to sell them. All the customers were in shock. We all called the 800 # to complain. They never called me back but I later found out that all though Walgreens had them in their ad for 50% off all the stores were told by Corp not to sell them. They were to take them off the shelf and open all the boxes and sell the individual item at full price. Makes me sick. Nice bait and switch huh?

    • Yuck, that’s terrible.

    • I’m in Miami too – I never go to Walgreens … there is always some sore of issue that comes up so I gave up ! I found a CVS that I really like and everyone is super nice and always helpful!!

    • Im in the Miami/Doral area and I know what you mean. I am thankful that my CVS and Wags are pretty good. But I know all these cashiers here think they own the store! I was told once that I could not take an item for free….I laughed in thier face told them to scan the coupons and took my items for FREE!

  6. I would have rolled my eyes back at him and stated that for inventory purposes he needs to ring the Mellow Yellow up as Mellow Yellow. I don’t understand why they feel the need to be nasty to people. I’ve been lucky here in NC as I’ve only had one cashier (Walgreens) give a bit of an attitude…..I’ve heard horror stories regarding Target but my Target is great they actually help with the coupons and try to get you the best deal.

  7. Laura Jean says:

Ana, Thats the attitude I encounter at my Walgreens also which is why I hate shopping there, everything is a battle with them.

  8. I’ve just started coming to this site and like it – because it focuses on grocery and drug store type deals instead of random all-over-the-internet deals. Thank you. I’ve been using coupons for a few years, but I use them very conservatively so as not to attract undue attention. I think a big reason cashiers and shoppers have negative attitudes toward coupon use is that some folks are so extreme. This Nivea deal, for instance – it’s a freebie and obviously a glitch, so why take advantage of it and buy so many? Do it once and get the $6ecb and consider it a great deal. That way coupon users don’t look like thieves and we have a better reputation.

    • We do try to focus on the grocery stores and drugstores unless there is a phenomenal deal like the Best Buy coupon today. It helps keep the clutter down. I apologize if you thought I was being extreme. I can’t say that I use coupons conservatively because I am always looking for the best deals but I try to use them honestly. Unfortunately, for CVS they failed on the Nivea deal and I turned around and gave it right back in buying the cokes. I only feel like the manager was out of line by his actions, disrespect, and comments. I was polite even though my blood was boiling and still complimented them on the fact that they were prepared for the coke sale and had plenty of stock. Had he not honored the ECB then it would have been different and corporate would have gotten a call but he did what was right (other than voicing his opinions).

  9. AshleyAshley says:

Sounds like it’s time to call the 1 800 number on the receipt and let CVS customer service know how you’ve been treated. I did that recently, it’s not my typical MO but when you’re abiding by the rules and regulations to use coupons etc, there’s no reason why someone would give you a hard time.

  10. Monica I would have not explained. Heck no… I am paying for it not him, and he should not care how u pay for it. I treat coupons as money, yes money. See the company will get back their money they are not losing anything.
And I totally hate when someone miss-usses a coupon and get called out within seconds. No questions as to did u notice that u used the wrong coupons?? Nope! I think that we are all humans and make mistakes. Do you really think we would have put up on a blog that we used the wrong coupon.
Anyhow unless u r attacked I think if u have nothing nice to say then just stay quiet….lol

    • That’s the way I feel Gery. I don’t intentionally use incorrect info but at times I am human and make mistakes. This mistake was on CVS though and quite honestly I am glad because I was going to get the cokes but I didn’t want to have to pay fully out of pocket for them.

  11. Sheila DeLaCruz says:

Had the problem on the Nivea Tins also, only to be told by the manager that one of the couponers in Tampa , Florida…where I live, went to a CVS and proceeded to use 10 different cards to get the deal on nivea….thus making the Manager mad and he called corporate about it. This woman actually went to all the stores and got her limits on the card for this deal! Therefore the rest of us lost out for Miss Piggy’s greediness! I try to always leave product unless there are only a few…..now I know who has been clearing the shelves at all the stores around here!!!!

  12. Monica and Steve, how do you use Coke rewards? I’ve seen both of you redeem a “free 12pk of coke” coupon. I would love a coupon for a free 12pk! I’m a Sprite Zero addict and plan on stocking up on some more this week! Thanks for all of your hard work, guys.

    • It’s actually quite tedious to get the free product coupons. Coke products have codes, either in the cap of a bottle or in the box of cans. You enter the codes on their web site. These are worth points that are redeemable for coupons and merchandise. A bottled drink cap will typically yield three points and I think the 12-packs start at 10 or 15 points each.

You can get a free Powerade 32 oz or Coca Cola 20 oz coupon for 40 points and 12-pack coupons for 240 points. However, I highly recommend that you don’t redeem them at these rates. Wait until they run a special discount on these coupons and then snag as many as they will let you.

Back in December there were promotions on two days for FREE Coke 12-pack coupons. One day they were 30 points with a limit of one free product coupon. Another day they were 30 points with a limit of four. That’s when you want to redeem your points. (I think they marked the Powerade coupons down to 8 or 10 points at least once in the last year.)

Then save your coupons for a promotion that generates extra bucks, register rewards, or a deal like a B2G2 at Publix to get even more free products or a moneymaker.

      Hope that helps! :)

  13. Heather E says:

Just curious ~ I have about a dozen of the free coke coupons. They likely wouldn’t have the kind I want (Cherry Coke Zero), but if they did, could I use 8 of them to buy 16 Coke products ($32.00), get them all for 8 cents and still end up with the $10 card?

    • The items are 4/$10, so it would be 12 for $30 total. Use six coupons and pay $0.06 plus tax, but get back a $10 cash card. This will only work if your store autodeducts the full $4.99 max value.

If they only deduct $2.50, you will need to use twelve coupons and pay $0 plus tax. Get back a $10 cash card.

If you bought 12 and handed them six coupons, but they only deducted $2.50 each, you would pay $15 plus tax and get back a $10 cash card. Net price is $5 (or 42 cents per 12-pack.)

  14. Stephanie says:

Im wondering if a lot of people had the problem with CVS not ringing the cokes individually for Ibotta offers. The same thing happened to me. I bought diet coke and coke zero because I had both offers on Ibotta and the cashier rang up 12 diet cokes. I didnt think about until I got home. I was worried I wouldnt get the money back for the coke zero from Ibotta but surprisingly they did give me both offers without any problem even though my receipt said 12 diet cokes.
