As I mentioned in my CVS post, I stopped at Walgreens just before midnight on Saturday night prior to my CVS trip. Then I stopped by Walgreens again on the way home to buy a few items on the new sale. A few deals didn’t work out as expected. I only received the advertised 1000 points per Mitchum Deodorant. This is what the ad specified, however earlier in the week folks were getting 2000 points for each one they bought. Also, my cashier entered the Stride ID Gum coupons as $1 each this time, rather than scanning them, so I didn’t make out like a bandit like I’d hoped. Nevertheless, it was a successful trip.

Here’s what I bought, along with the coupons used:

TRANSACTION #1 – Just before midnight
TEN MITCHUM DEODORANTS, on sale $1.99 (regular price $3.99)
TEN STRIDE ID GUM, on sale 2/$2 (regular price $1.49)
Get 1000 Balance Rewards Points (value $1-$1.25) when you buy one Mitchum
Get 1000 Balance Rewards Points (value $1-$1.25) when you buy two Stride ID
Used five $1.50/2 Mitchum coupons, 9/16 SS newspaper insert
and used five BOGO Stride ID Gum coupons (deducted $1 each), 9/16 SS newspaper insert
Price at Register: $17.40, but earned 1500 Balance Rewards Points (value $15-$18.75)
NET PRICE FOR ALL: $1.35 MONEYMAKER!

TRANSACTION #2 – Shortly after midnight (new sale)
TWO SCOPE DUAL BLAST 25.4 OZ, on sale 2/$6
Get $3 Register Rewards when you buy two Scope Outlast
Used two $1.50/1 Scope coupons, 8/26 P&G newspaper insert
Price at Register: $3, but received $3 Register Rewards
NET PRICE FOR ALL: FREE!

TRANSACTION #3 – Also on the new sale
ONE FRS ENERGY SHOT 2 CT, on sale $3.99 (regular price $4.99)
TWO ARIZONA ICED TEA, on sale 2/$1 (regular price $0.99)
ONE HALLOWEEN TUMBLER, regular price $0.39
Get $4 Register Rewards when you buy one FRS 2 ct
Used the in-ad coupon for the Halloween Tumbler (deducted $0.26)
Price at Register: $5.12, but received $4 Register Rewards
NET PRICE FOR ALL: $1.12
(Note that I used three RRs totaling $5 to reduce my out-of-pocket spending)

Total Retail Value of All Merchandise: $71.14
Net Price Paid for Everything: $0.23 PROFIT!
Savings Rate (excluding tax): 100.3%

One other note: Not all of my Mitchums credited to my account automatically. I had to call them to get them credited. They were very pleasant on the phone and the call did not last long.

  1. Hey Steve! At my store they wouldnt allow me to use the bogo coupon and the reward card! They told me they were told they couldnt do that anymore. What do you think about this?

    • I haven’t heard anything about this and it sounds ridiculous. I think there’s a 99.99% chance they are misinformed.

  2. Well, according to the manager that was working last night they received an email saying that. I still bought the gum and I’m planning on calling customer service to see wht they say about this. I found it weird and the manager was with a bit of an attitude so I just bought it and kept my receive. Thanks :)

  3. Steve, great job as always with your shopping trips!!

Could I just ask a question and it may sound dumb, but where do the rewards go and how do
    you use them?

    • The Balance Points go on the card and you can elect to use them at the checkout on a future trip.

HOWEVER, if you use points to buy items that generate more points, you won’t earn the new points.

My plan is to use the points to buy items like the Walgreens Nutritional Drinks when they are on sale. Basically…things that I never get for free anyways. (I have a friend that will take the drinks off my hands.)

  4. My store advise me to buy 2gum each transaction so I get 1kpts eat time. How interesting your store didn’t suggest that?

    • The only thing she suggested was to buy them and either use the coupon or the balance rewards card :( I even asker if it would work if she scan my card and she said that it would but she will not scanned it I was going to use the coupon :/

  5. Just another reason I don’t shop at Walgreens. Just when you think they are getting customer friendly, they flip-flop on you.
