I know we don’t cover Staples but I thought with everyone getting ready to start school shopping again you guys could benefit from this. This week Staples started it’s Back to School savings promotion where they offer certain items for $.01 with a $5 purchase. To help out with the $5 minimum I found a coupon in the labels/dividers section for $2 off any Martha Stewart/Avery product. There were several choices of Martha Stewart labels that were on sale for $2.00 making them FREE. Here is how my trip went…

i did this deal too! But i also bought (2) multipurpose paper, scotch glue and (2) calendar and submitted for easy rebate. It brought me up to $37 so i could use $5 off $30 from the ad. After coupons and rebates, i only spent $2.54!!! yay staples!
That’s awesome Tria. I thought about doing the easy rebates but didn’t want to fool with it this week.
it took less than 5 minutes and i already got a confirmation email. i also chose the option to get the rebate through paypal coz i saw a lot of posts saying paypal is faster than a rebate check.
I love their Easy Rebates and I debated once I got into the store on getting a ream of paper and getting my $5 over with quick but I found so many other great deals that I decided that I could keep on “recycling” papers to print coupons and lists that are clean on the backside (this works great in my house) and there are no problems with the stores taking them if there is something crazy on the backside.
I just wanted to say that I think it’s so awesome that you’re conscientious about recycling your paper! It’s so green! Better for your wallet and the planet. =D
Thanks! It was a tip I seen somewhere on how to save on printing coupons and thought that was one little thing I could do. Besides when the boy is in school they are sending a non-essential note home everyday that works great for coupons and sometimes I get lucky enough to have different colors. I know that is silly but I have had cashiers comment on how “pretty” my coupons were.
where can i get the martha stewart coupon. I am planning on Staples tomorrow. Thanks
They are located in Staples. There are “blinkies” in the labels/dividers section and you can take the coupon from. There were plenty left at my store, I hope that you find the same.
Thank you so much for posting this! My oldest goes to school for the first time this year and I hope to find deals for all his supplies!
You are welcome. I hope that you find lots of goodies for the first day. Kindergarten is so bittersweet, I am dreading my son starting middle school this year.
Monica, I am happy to see this Staples deal you did!!
It serves as a guideline for someone like me that is not too saavy on this particular sale and do not have the time to do it on my own!!
Thanks for the opportunity!!
I’m so glad I could help!
I had plans on being there on Sunday, then I got sick, I am glad to see theres still good stuff left! going either tomorrow or friday!
I was surprised to see that they still had all the $.01 items stocked. I was super excited. Good luck on your trip!
My staples you had to hit the $5 before any of the special prices items rang up (.01, .50 or $1)…..this ment that you had to spend at least $5 plus the super sale items. Still got good deals but my understanding of $5 min. purchase was much different than theirs
Awww Catherine, that stinks. They only made me have $5 before I could get the $.01 items. I had miscalculated somehow which is why I donated the $1 to put me over the limit so I could get my $.01 items.
I just got back from Staples and they told me that I had to buy a $5 or over item before the penny deals started. I thought it was accumulated items to $5 – not including the penny items of course. Turned out not to be a good deal as I spent $15 instead of the $10 I was planning on – boo!
Jennifer, I don’t think they were right on that one. If you got items that you did not want I would definately call corporate and ask them for clarity. Maybe they can help you get a better deal in the upcoming weeks with the sales.
Thank you – I’ll get the hang of it eventually
You are welcome. Hope you have better luck next time.
Monica,
thank you for posting this, I wasn’t even thinking on Staples, now I will be heading that way for some school supplies.
Has any store ever gave you a hard time for printing coupons in color paper? I try to use recycle paper as much as I can, but only dare to print on color paper for CVS coupons since they are okay with it.
I have never had any problems using recycled paper. Even when there is a coupon on the backside. I mark a line through the wrong or expired coupon so that I don’t get confused and they don’t either.
Thank you I will give it a try.
I apsolutely love that you broke this down due to new to couponing i use this site to help me with all my shopping. Now i know how to get this weeks staples deal does anyone also know a good site to get the officemax items please some one help im trying to learn all this its so hard at the start and having 6 kids it a great way to save money thank you .
Kimberly, I spoke with Steve last night and we talked about doing the best deals on supplies at Staples, Office Max, and Office Depot (at least during school supply season) on Saturday for the new ads. These will all be lumped into one post but make sure to look for it starting this Saturday afternoon/evenings sometime.
thank you so much that will be so help your websites is a lifesaver thank you
Staples also has a loyalty card. You have to PAY $10 for it but then you get 15% off all school supplies. They have a pretty broad definition of school supplies (I think Kleenex and file folders and classroom decorating supplies count.) So then you would have to spend $67. on school supplies to make back the $10. Does anyone have an opinion on whether this is worth it?
In my old days whe we waited for the list of school supplies to come home from school and then bought everything all at once after the 1st day of school and without coupons, this would definitely be worth it since we paid a few hundred for school supplies. But now I’m trying to be smarter with my money and take advantage on the 1 cent deals and sales at other businesses and I don’t have an idea of whether it would be worth it.
Does anyone have any comments or advice?
Tina, they offered me the loyalty card the other day and I passed on it. I didn’t feel like this would benefit me personally very much because I only shop at Staples during school supply season. I also only have one child so I typically don’t spend a whole lot on school supplies due to catching them on sale and/or using coupons. Hopefully others will share their opinions as well as.
OK, so this should work but I didn’t realize it when I went today.
The Staples 1 ream of all-purpose paper is selling for $6.99 but you can do easy rebate for $6.74 each (limit 2). That brings it to 25 cents. I did that part. But also there was a coupons.com coupon for I think $2. off a ream of paper with HP Color Lock technology. When I got the paper home today I realized that the Staples brand paper has the HP Color Lock logo on it, so in theory you should be able to use the coupon as well. In that case each ream of paper could be a $1.75 money maker. They have the same deal with (I think) a fresh 1-week rebate with limit 2 again. I would love to hear from someone if it works, or I will try again next week with the coupons.
Monica, I did buy the loyalty card (it’s for school supplies only and it expires on September 15). It also applied to the paper and so I got 15% off the paper and then will get the rebate as above. With what I bought today I already got a $4.95 discount and so am halfway to having the card pay for itself. I’m pretty sure with a middle schooler and high schooler that I’ll need to buy enough more school supplies to pay for it, but that will be an individual decision for each person.
I also want to thank you for this site. I had no idea where to begin with couponing until I found you.
I would have never thought about a Staples product having an HP Color Lock logo. If it works that would be a GREAT deal! If someone tries this I hope that they would share with everyone. That’s awesome that the loyalty card is paying off. I will put some more thought into it before I go shopping this week. Steve gets all the credit for the site I just help out when and where I am needed.
Thank you, Monica, for this. My daughter is not school age anymore but when she was there were always kids with no new stuff on the first day of school. I used your example and got lots of giveaway stuff for 8.00, I saved 78%. Happy, happy
Awesome Fran. I am helping out with a school supply drive myself right now. It truly feels great to give.
