Well, today has not been the best day to shop for me. Walgreens was horrible this week and then I walked into CVS and don’t recognize a single worker in the store. I felt like Fred and not having a backup plan. I had forgotten that all my favorites were transferring to a new store in town that will open in a couple of weeks. I knew immediately I was going to have some issues so I just started my trip off at the counter. Luckily the manager was standing there along with the new cashier. Here is what happened. I had a whole trip planned out using expired CVS coupons (which I was told was fine a couple of weeks ago) so I decided to ask up front before loading my cart up and then having problems. Her reply “No, we cannot take even CVS expired coupons.” I had a feeling something like this was going to happen so I had to rethink my whole trip and I will have to start shopping CVS on Fridays when the other store opens and I am on that side of town. So here is what I got anyways…

  1. Is it a CVS policy to give overages, or does it vary from store to store (or cashier to cashier)? I’m surprised that you didn’t have a hard time with the Cortaid purchase, but that’s awesome!

    • CVS does not give overages but it can be applied to other items in your order. I didn’t know if the cortaid deal was going to work out either. The “new cashier” didn’t think he could do it but the manager was standing there and I lightly mentioned, can’t you use a CVS coupon and manufacturer and she said yes. He scanned the coupon and there were no beeps.

  2. Oh, also, do the coupons you can get from the CVS Red Coupon Machine vary from person to person? I’ve just recently started shopping at CVS now that I’ve moved to a place that has them (woo hoo!), but I haven’t gotten any of the awesome coupons that people have been talking about. I’ve gotten some, but most of them seem kind of lame. Is it because I’m new?

    • I don’t know if it has anything to do with you being new, but they do vary from person to person and region to region. There may be a week where you get an awesome coupon that matches up with the ad and we get nothing.

      • Well for me when I scanned them my first time I got a bogo for skinny water, and I got the same thing for the next 2 scans!! I was so annoyed, but around my 4 or 5 scan I started getting better coupons, so after like 4 cvs trips, you’ll prob get better coupons

    • marlene says:

idk either but i have been shopping there at least everyweek since april and i also get the lame coupons like 50¢ of some candies never get the good dollars off

  3. If you saw

  4. Monica,

You are so right , I couldn’t find enough saving at walgreen ‘s to go. CVS was the best if you buy 15 2liter Coke for 5/5.00 separate orders and on the third order you receive 5.00 EB.,along with other great savings. Love your site.

    • Walgreens was horrible this week. All the credit for the site goes to Steve, he has done a fabulous job setting up and managing a site where we can all trade/share information that someone finds helpful. By the way, tip for CVS this week. If you got the $2/1 Nature Made vitamin coupon, I think that it is a week long print so if you can stop by each day and grab some then come Saturday (if the store has any cheap vitamins left) we should really be able to get some great deals when combined with the $2/1 manufacturer coupon. Lots of overage to play with.

  5. Hi Monica,

I remember either you or Naomi mentioning a certain website used to order addtional coupons.
Would you please let us know. I just can’t remember the website name. I just trying to find one
    that has reasonable prices.
I really do appreciate all your great scenarios,. what a savings this has been for us in this economy.

    Thank you!!
