Walgreens 6/18 – Paid $0.00 on $12 of Merchandise (100% Saved)

I stopped in Walgreens on the way back from the gym. It was an unplanned stop, but I decided to see if there were any free Suave products left. I had $14 with me and no coupons. I found over twenty bottles on the shelf between the five different $1 varieties, so I grabbed eight and took them to checkout. Because my gym shorts had no pockets, my cashier over at the cosmetics counter could see all my cash that I had in my hand. After ringing up eight, she asked me why I didn’t buy more. When I told her I wanted to leave a bunch for other folks, she said to go get more because she wanted all my money – plus she said she was getting another truck tomorrow ;)

So I ended up doing six transactions that were identical. I didn’t really care about rolling the Register Rewards, because it looks like we may have $1.99 cases of water next week. If so, I’ll burn through any rewards I have and stock up on water. Here is what the six transactions looked like:

BUY TWO SUAVE SHAMPOOS AND/OR CONDITIONERS (small bottle), regular price $1
Get $2 Register Rewards when you buy two Suave Shampoos, Conditioners or Stylers
No coupons used
Price at Register: $2 (plus tax), but received $2 Register Rewards
NET PRICE FOR ALL: FREE!

Total Retail Value of All Merchandise: $12
Net Price Paid for Everything: $0
Savings Rate (excluding tax): 100%

  1. I guarantee you they won’t allow that to happen at the Walgreen’s I shop at. “Limit 4″ sign is up!

    • I would have been happy with four too. And I think there are a few cashiers at this store that might insist on only one or two of each deal, but my friend at cosmetics is very nice to me.

Oh, puhlease, Steve – she was flirting with you!! You just gave her that boyish grin, didn’t you?!?!?! lol

I had RX’s to p/u at Walgreen’s, so I sent my Mom with a list & coupons & she did excellently!
        - 8 boxes Kraft Mac & Cheese w/BOGO coupon from last week
        - 1 Colgate Advanced toothpaste w/50¢ coupon, but I printed 75¢ coupons this am to use later in the week
        - 2 Sour Apple (yuck) Suave Shampoos (they only had 3 left on the shelf)

With tax, came to $5.56 & got $4.50 back in catalinas – to use tomorrow! I’m going to switch these back & forth thru the week to keep them rolling – will that work? Hmmmmm.

        • I know ;)

You can switch them back in forth, but be careful that you don’t use any Suave RRs when you buy more Suave. Don’t use any Colgate RRs in a transaction where you buy more Colgate etc.

          Nice deal :)

  2. GOTTA LOVE A GUY IN GYM SHORTS :) – LET ME EXPLAIN- MY HUBBY LIVES IN HIS GYM SHORTS :) EVEN DURING THE WINTER- WELL WE LIVE IN FLORIDA

LOVE YOUR SITE BY THE WAY!

  3. Ronda M says:

wow, they are strict here……limit 2 only.

  4. dude, my walgreens price says $1.99 each. WTH?

    • The bigger bottles are $1.99. They were right next to the small ones for $1 at my store.

  5. ..oh my suave coupons just expired yesterday..

    • Don’t worry. The shampoo coupon was not for a product that matched the $1 product anyways.

  6. jacklynn says:

Can you roll reg rewards into the same item?? I have never done it thats why I ask.

    • No, but you could do something like this:

      #1 Buy two Suave
      pay $2 & get $2 RR

#2 Buy two Colgate and one Act Popcorn
Use .75/1 Colgate newspaper coupon and your $2 Suave RR
Pay $0.50 (plus tax) & get $2.50 Colgate RR

      #3 Buy two Suave
      Buy one Butterball Broth
Use the in-ad coupon for the Butterball and your $2.50 Colgate RR
Pay nothing (but sales tax) and get $2 Suave RR

      Repeat #2
      Repeat #3
      Repeat #2
      Repeat #3
      etc., etc., etc.

Pay $0.50 plus tax for two Suave, one Colgate, one Popcorn and one Butterball for each round of two transactions.

Steve, I was wondering the same thing. I have never rolled rr either. can you tell me where do you get the .75/1 Colgate coupon from?

Today I went and did the transaction 9 times. I was trying to wait until the tissue and paper towels come again 2/1.00 walgreens brand.

Thanks for all you do. I am really enjoying your site. I am learning more and more every day.

Good for you Steve. Glad you have such a wonderful cashier. Seems like you have some regulars that are super nice to you.

Today I tried to do my deals at Publix but my regular cashier wasn’t on schedule. Sadly, the cashier I ended up with wanted to look at every single coupon I had…before she even started ringing me up! I don’t usually like doing this because I like to keep track of my coupons so that none are missed. But she was insistent. Then she tried to tell me that the Publix Stock up for Summer Savings coupons were a limit of one per customer. (Limit One Deal Per Coupon Per Customer). So she was reading it as one per customer! WHA??? I had to ask for a manager who gave her “permission” to take my multiple coupons. In the end, I had to hold back 3 of my Target bodywash coupons because those said Limit One Per Customer. If I leave off the gas card deal, I got $116 of groceries for under $12. So there, Coupon Nazi!

The moral of the story is, go with the cashiers you know and like. They’ll treat you right every time. :)

    • Yup! Glad you still had a very nice trip, even if you had to go through hell to get it done.

  8. Got a question can u use the register rewards that you get from product on the same product and still get another register reward

    • No, but I just wrote a little scenario on someone else’s comment about how to get multiples of this deal without coming out of pocket much.

  9. My Walgreens let’s me buy what I want! I used the $2.00 reward buck toward the Scott Paper towels which are $5.00, use the $1.00 Walgreens coupon in the June booklet, plus use the $1.00 manufacture coupon. So Scott.Naturals 6 rolls for just a $1.00!! I got 7 packs!!

  10. One store had the family size on mark down for $1.09, then get $2.00 rewards bucks awesome!!
