Target changes the rules – New coupon policy in effect and some less coupon-friendly terms :(

My friend Fred over at Print Great Coupons let me know that there have been some changes to the Target Coupon Policy. The big change has to do with how many like coupons can be used by a “household” per day, but there are some other changes that are noteworthy. Here are the highlights…errr lowlights…

1) Limit of four identical coupons per household per day (or lower if the words on the coupon dictate a lower limit.)
2) Returns of items purchased with manufacturer coupons will receive a Target Gift Card with the refunded coupon discount. (Plus the value of a Target coupon used will not be refunded.)
3) Target reserves the right to accept, refuse or limit the use of any manufacturer coupon.
4) Target will not accept Canadian coupons in US stores.

By the way, if you haven’t checked out my friend Fred’s web site, you may want to take a look at Print Great Coupons. He’s a relative newbie to couponing, but he’s doing some matchups for Michigan area stores (in addition to posting deals for the national ones.) For example, he did a little writeup on the Hiller’s ad, which is a metro-Detroit chain of grocery stores. I also mentioned Fred’s site once before when he wrote about his first weekend of chasing Register Reward deals. If you haven’t read it previously, you may want to take a look at it here.

Extreme Couponing Tip: You can usually get two prints of most internet coupons. To find them in the easiest possible way, use our preclipped links that take you right to the coupon. Then come back and click the same link to get your 2nd print. This will save you the time spent searching for the coupon.

  1. Boo! I rarely shop at Target with coupons anymore. They are usually more disgruntled than Wal Mart in my town!

    • Target is a hike for me, although I do use Target coupons at a Publix store that is about 10 minutes closer to my house.

  2. Melissa says:

Ehh no biggie. I only end up in Target once every 3 months or so and I never use that many coupons anyways. I would be in Bigger trouble if Publix decided not to keep Target as a competitor!

  3. Same here. I’d rather take those target cpns to Publix where shopping really is a pleasure, & they don’t limit the number of cpns I use.

  4. Wow, I thanks for the update. I never really shop at Target, I just use the coupons at Publix. I don’t even think of them as an options for shopping deals. I do purchase dog items and some casual clothes at Target, but as for food and cleaning items…Publix baby….lol. I guess the Publix coupon policy of accepting competitor coupons is working…lol. thanks Steve.

  5. Patricia says:

Teri and Lucy summed it up for me. I love taking Target coupons to Publix. I used ten yesterday. I got the coupons out of their summer booklet.I tryed to buy Refreshers a month ago. They said i could only use 3 coupons because it showed 3 flavorson the coupon. They only carried 2 of the flavors , so guess what. I could only use 2 coupons. They don’t need my business!

  6. Using coupons in Target can be a challenge, but when there are good deals at hand, its’s worth the hassle. I find most Target cashiers are not familiar with coupon rules and they try to make their own rules up on the fly. Normally what I end up doing is reading their Target Coupon Policies back to them in a nice manner.

    Thanks for the policy updates!!!
