I had big plans for my Sunday Walgreens trip and the fine print on the Hellmann’s coupons threw a big bomb on my scenario. (The coupon has a limit of two per trip.) So instead I picked up a freebie and a small moneymaker, plus I gave all my Starbucks Refreshers Register Rewards away to a cashier (who was once hostile, but is now nice) and a friend that drinks the Walgreens store brand nutritional shakes. Some of those Register Rewards are going to expire on 5/27, which is the evening I get back from my trip. I figured that I would not want to go shopping after spending 14 hours traveling.

So here’s the scaled down transaction I did today:

ONE DEPEND REAL FIT 3 CT, on sale $4.49
ONE PENCIL, on clearance $0.10
Get $3 Register Rewards when you buy U by Kotex Sleek Tampons 18 ct (Monthly Deal through 5/26)
Get $3.50 Register Rewards when you buy Depend Real Fit or Silhouette 3 ct (Monthly Deal through 5/26)
Used one $1/1 U by Kotex Tampons, 5/20 SS newspaper insert
and used one $1.50/1 Depend Real Fit or Silhouette, 5/20 SS newspaper insert
Price at Register: $6.08, but received $6.50 Register Rewards
NET PRICE FOR EVERYTHING: $0.42 MONEYMAKER (minus the sales tax)

I used a Register Reward from last week to defray the cost a little.

Total Retail Value of All Merchandise: $11.37
Net Price Paid (excluding sales tax): $0.42 PROFIT
Savings Rate (excluding sales tax): 103.7%

Extreme Couponing Tip: You can usually get two prints of most internet coupons. To find them in the easiest possible way, use our preclipped links that take you right to the coupon. Steve, would that be the 5/20 SS newspaper insert?

  2. Steve, I took the B1G1 Ocean Spray printable (don’t remember when I printed it off coupons.com) to Walgreens today, they rang up at $4.99 each and I gave her the B1G1 coupon first and she took off $4.99, then I gave her the SC which adjusted the price to 2/$5.00, so both ended up being free. I had so many other things I didn’t notice it until I checked the receipt after I got home. I don’t know if this was a fluke or she souldve taken the SC first, but I expected to pay $2.50 for both which is still a good deal.
Just thought Id let you know!

    • Cool. Technically it is not supposed to work that way, but that is a quirk of the Walgreens cash registers. Congrats :)

  3. PS…If CVS has the Ocean Spray on sale this week B1G1 free, with the B1G1 coupon would they both be free?

    • Yes, if your store has the cherry variety required for the coupon. Mine didn’t :(

I went to my locaal Wag yesterday and none of my register rewards printed out the Manager stated “we are cracking down on those that are scamming the system”. I asked what she meant by this and she stated “those that are using coupons and register rewards to buy register rewards sale items. Still confused I asked her to give me an example she stated “why should we reward you if you are not paying the advertised sale price”. I stated is this a new policy because I was just in your store on tuesday and I had no problem using a register reward to help lower the cost of a different RR sale item and still got my RR for said item. She said no. So more confused than ever now! She did however go to anther register and rerung up all the items and the register rewards printed out. She asked at the end how much in RR did I receive and how much did I pay. I pd $27.08 OOP but got back $21 had a total of 19 items and over $65 in savings. She stated “this is what we are talking about you just only pd 6.08 for all this, and that is not right”. has anyone else experienced this? I really like my local Wag I know most of my Cashiers and Managers by name and they know me. I have no problems at any other Wag, but this one since they upgrade to the newer system that the other Wags have been using for months. Dazed and Confused.
