I ran into Publix this afternoon to get some items that I had run out of over the holiday weekend, and was really hoping to find some carefree to soak up some of the costs associated with the dishwashing detergent and the sunblock but I was out of luck in that area but I did find some peelies which helped out. One thing you will probably never see me buy is bread, because I try to only make my own hence the giant bag of flour in the back there.
Here’s what I bought and the coupons used:

I used a $5/$30 Publix store coupon from the Publix Spring Cleaning Booklet in the 4/8 Tampa Tribune.
I also bought one $50 Shell Gas Card and used the $10/1 $50 Gas Card with purchase of $25 in groceries exp 4/18 (Publix Weekly Ad in-ad coupon.) This is not included in the calculations below, as gasoline is not part of the grocery budget.
Total Retail Value of All Merchandise: $52.42
Special Price Savings (Sales/BOGOs): $17.66
Coupon Savings (Store/Manufacturer): $16
Net Price for Everything: $18.76
Savings Rate (excluding sales tax): 64.2% (plus I’m saving 20% on gas with the discounted gas card!)
Extreme Couponing Tip: You can usually get two prints of most internet coupons. To find them in the easiest possible way, use our preclipped links that take you right to the coupon. Then come back and click the same link to get your 2nd print. This will save you the time spent searching for the coupon.Never miss another hot coupon, deal or freebie again! If my gas card was not counted then I would be in the negative at -$4.53 lol – I held on to a few free product coupons and even tied one to a BOGO free —> store coupons $16.50, vendor coupons $18.84 and special price savings $19.11 = $54.45 in savings = $45.47 paid on everything but that is including my $50 gift card.
I LOVE PUBLIX!
No carefree in any of our stores here either.
I found some banana boat at the $1 store so I have plenty of that.
Thank God for the gas card because this girl is out of gas.
Awesome job! I’m going shopping this evening. I haven’t sat down to figure out what we’re going to do, but Stephanie drives about 35 mins to work each day, so I know I am going to pick up a gas card.
Steve, Do you know if it’s possible to use the $10 off $50 Sweetbay coupon on a $50 gas card? I don’t see any restriction listed on the coupon. The $5 off $30 Publix excludes fuel purchases but not the Sweetbay. Or is the gas card considered a gift card?
Thanks!
I think they will consider it a gift card. The ambiguity of some of the competitor coupons may cause varying results at varying stores. You can always pitch your idea by customer service when you arrive at your store.
where in the ad is the gas card coupon? is it in the insert in store?
It is on page two of the weekly ad.
No panty liners on my side of town either. Hopefully the coupon freak of Land O Lakes will donate the 100 she bought.
The truck comes in tomorrow in my area….for the pantyliners!!!
Naomi, have u ever tried ” Publix Honey Whole Wheat” bread? In my area they keep that bread in their freezer (it’s all natural, no preservatives, doesn’t keep on the shelf very long) in the back of the Bakery counter, so you can only get it by asking . It’s not cheap, but totally worth it.
I haven’t tried it, Maybe one day when I am in a sandwich mood I will give it a shot. The good thing about when I make my own bread though is that it costs next to nothing!
I’ve been to 8 Publix store’s in the SW Miami Area since Sat and today I was only able to score 8 Pantiliners in one store today left 2 on the shelf. I paid 34.54 total with Gas card included =D that was my best tranaction today trans# (2) 51.56 (3) 43.66 (4) 54.28 all transaction with gas card included! I was also able to score potted Easter Lilies for $1.00 Keep an Eye out if your into potted plants
Nice job
Do you have a bread recipe you can recommend, Naomi? We don’t eat a lot of bread, but I’d love to try and make some. Thanks for the post!

This is a really easy recipe that doesn’t require a lot of time or equipment.
Super easy white bread

I make all my own bread, too:) I make hot dog buns and hamburger buns too. I do not buy products that have high fructose corn syrup, I do not believe that ones body metabolizes this the same. I had my gallbladder removed in my early 20s so my body is really finicky about what I consume.
I tried making whole grain bread and whole wheat bread, but the people I live with will not eat it. They like their white bread….
