Publix 2/16 – Paid $24.61 on $112.39 of Merchandise (Saved 78.1%)

It seemed like the evil forces lined up and conspired to make us spend money today. I had no coupons left for any of the good moneymakers, plus we needed a few items that we had to buy without coupons (milk, bread, cat litter.) I don’t understand how this managed to happen, but the cats are brand-loyal on the litter. (At least it was on sale!)

The roommate is off her diet this week, so she saw the sale ad and wanted to make lasagna. I saw the sale ad and wanted to make fried eggplant sandwiches. So we both got our way. She did one transaction and used a $5/$25 Save-a-Lot coupon and a $2/$2+ Publix coupon. I did two transactions. My first transaction used a Publix $5/$30; my second transaction used a $2/$2+ Publix coupon. My second transaction consisted of two loaves of bread and nothing else.

I was looking your shopping list for publix and noticed that you used target coupons there. So does Publix really honor other store coupons?

    • steve says:

Yes. Each store has their own list of competitors they accept. It varies from store-to-store, based on which other grocery stores operate in their immediate area.

      • Renal says:

Gotcha, pretty soon a Publix will be opening up here in knoxville. I can’t wait to be apart of these amazing deals. Especially using my extra register rewards from Walgreens on MEAT!!!

        • steve says:

I’ll cross my fingers for you. Not all Publix stores will accept Register Rewards from Walgreens.

          • Koni says:

@Renal, at most of the Publix’s I visit, there is usually a Poster in the store’s window that tells me what other store coupons they accept…I have seen these posters advertised when I lived in Atlanta last year and here in Miami…Also, the one in ATL, had a little booklet also letting you know which ones they accepted…

Hi I went to Targets website of coupons and could not find a coupon for the Bertolli sauce and when I do how do you print 2 of any coupon, I printed a few other coupons and when I went back to look for the sauce coupon i noticed the ones i printed said coupon printed used so I don’t know how you get 2 of anything here.. Thanks…

  3. georgia.gay@live.com says:

There’s a manufacture coupon from the January newspaper for hunts I found it using iheartthemart.com coupon database I can’t remember what wk. But it was recent.

    • steve says:

      Hey Georgia,

I don’t think I could use that coupon because almost all my cans were Tomato Sauce, not Tomatoes. It is a bit of a gray area, but my manufacturer coupons were $0.45/3 Hunt’s Tomatoes and I only bought two cans that were not sauce.

  4. Amanda says:

    Steve,

Are just the small cans of hunts BOGO or are the normal size cans BOGO as well?

    • steve says:

Just the big ones this week.

      • Amanda says:

        Oh OK. Thank you!

      • Karen says:

Hi there, it looks like the 14.5 oz cans of Hunts tomatoes are on sale too, based on the Viva Italia sale flyer (look under Additional Ads), but when I visited my Publix yesterday there were no BOGO signs, so I bypassed it for the time being. Otherwise I have Target Qs and MQs to use on them before the sale. BTW, I got out of there with Publix paying me 9 cents a bottle for 8 bottles of Wishbone (1.97 price BOGO, 4 Target 1.50/2, + 4 MQ 0.65/2)!!

        • steve says:

Wow, I just checked and you’re right. My store didn’t have any signs either.

          • crystal says:

If it says it in the flyer, but doesn’t ring up as bogo, you could always show them the flyer and they will change the price, right?

  5. Marija C says:

Your prices are certainly a lot lower than in my area..lucky :)

    • kim says:

Yes it’s amazing not that far away, I am on the east coast and the prices are different here by 10 cents or more sometimes. But I finally found a store in my areas (after 4 stores) that had the sominex and the phazyme in stock and today was the last day of that sale so I was able to buy 4 of each and get $5.24 overage on the sominex and $4.04 overage on the phazyme on my trip today. I took the hubby so I could do two transactions. He thinks I am crazy!!! I did so well today :)
I love the italian sale every year, but last year the coupons were so much better but we wanted to make lasagna this weekend so we got 4 boxes of the lasagna. I actually did better than you for once. Got $114 worth of groceries for $14.50 :)

  6. Kim says:

That cheese coupon for $1 on 1 Florida only states 1 pound or larger! How can you use that on 8 oz cheese that is on sale?

  7. Thanks for linking up at Pounds4Pennies this week. Great savings.

  8. Emmie says:

Nice job especially on the cheese it is so expensive anymore! Our Publix here will take the cheese coupon as well if you buy 1lb regardless of sizes as long as it totals one pound. Thanks for the linkup on our website take good care!
